2020 Year In Review - July
⬅️ June | ⬆ Overview | ➡️ August
July had Kevin Rae and I teaming up once and this time to climb the Chief. I remember I brought some leftover pizza for us which was an excellent idea, and I plan to do it next time I climb the Chief too. July also brought with it more climbing with Matteo and Edward.
Kevin wrapped up with the chimney on the Butt-Light route with not too much drama. One pitch to go to the top, and it's 4:31PM on a Sunday.
It looks like Matteo and I went for another (no send) attempt on Unfinished Symphony on the apron, and Edward and I went for a damp Snake. Both are some of my favorite apron climbs for sure.
Edward on a sunny (but wet) Snake. That tree behind him looks like it's thinking about falling off pretty soon. I believe this was our first climb after Edward's wedding, so we were of course being extra careful.
Some time before July, I also met the Germans (Alex and Frauke) at work. I think we did some indoor climbing and then finally went for a Smoke Bluffs climbing around mid-July. This worked out OK, but there was maybe a little too much going on with me inviting lots of other people too for their first time out in Squamish. Alex and I also did an after-work climb on the Papoose earlier, since that's always a winner, but I didn't take any photos on it unfortunately. Luckily, Alex did so I'll attach them here.
A pitch or two up my go-to first time climbing date climb on the Papoose. "Pretend you're having fun!". Photo by Alex F.
Then July had some more old classic repeats (Bulletheads East with Edward), and checking out a new climb called Born Again with Matteo. I can't believe people are still finding new routes up the middle of the Apron. A couple more super cool climbs on the Papoose, and I'm sure even more climbing that I can't remember right now.
Then on my birthday, Jordan managed to sever one of his brake lines doing some offroading up the Mamquam FSR, and needed rescuing after work. We drove up together in my Subaru (I kinda skipped over this, but it replaced the old Jeep with the plan being it is a cross between my Protege and Jeep, so I have one ultimate vehicle to do it all.) We managed to get his 4runnner back to the highway and a tow truck to bring him to Canadian tyre. He got me a bottle of whiskey for my troubles and since it was my birthday, which was nice. For next year, I'd like to have something a little more sociable lined up for my birthday. I believe my old friend Alex got in touch for my birthday too, and we agreed to meet up sometime to catch up in the near future. We did end up doing that and now we boulder together and go to the gym together Tuesday and Thursday every week - thanks Alex for reaching out!
Trying (unsuccessfully) to pinch off a brake line - the time is 7:55PM, and it will be dark in not too long.
I also started on my balcony garden in July, and will do something similar next year, but start earlier.
