2020 Year In Review - February

⬅️ January | ⬆ Overview | ➡️ March

February had me doing my first ever solo ski up to believe it or not... Red Heather. It was not bad, and I ran into some old VOC'ers who looked to be taking some people up on their first ever ski trip.

Solo Red Heather ski trip with not so good snow, but still fun

Then we had at least one more unsuccessful Metal Dome trip which was pretty close, but we took what we thought would be a more direct route, but actually ended up just taking a couple extra hours. We arrived back at my Jeep after dark, and it was a great trip overall. I wrote up a pretty good Kevinstagram for that one, and it's Here

Really really nice morning up at Metal Dome.

Back at the Jeep for some hot chocolate.

Also in February, Tobias and the Faehndrich's put together an excellent Elfin trip where they booked pretty much the whole hut for a weekend and we had a big get together. For next time I'm not going to try to make a big bulk batch of Risotto, and will go for something like potatoes and gravy with chicken instead or something where you just need to add hot water and it's good to go. Risotto doesn't really scale out to a crowd all that well is what I've learned, but it still worked. The trip was really excellent though, and there's a Kevinstagram for it here: Here

Elfin hut - can we start snacking yet?

Sunday morning march up to what I believe is Columnar Peak. The weather was excellent and it was 9:56AM.

Great weather and great skiing up at Elfin. A trip like this simply would not be possible in a few months due to the incoming pandemic.

February was also the start of DnD in the office with Jot, Scott, and my brother Dave. We never got that far on our adventure, but it was a fun after-work activity in the office. Living in Squamish really didn't help though with having to do the whole drive back after.

And finally, February brought with it my first climbing of the year. Esther and I went out for an afternoon to check out the Smoke Bluffs. They were wet, but completely survivable, and it was good to see them still around.

Mid February was also when I was certain my time living in Squamish was coming to an end. Some things were definitely more convenient, but I preferred having the opportunity to commute up to Squamish for fun, rather than having to commute down from Squamish for work. I also did not like the place I was living and they were building a new whole set of condos next door. Next time I'm going to try not moving right beside an active construction site. Also my lease had no way out, so in the future I'm going to make certain that I always have a way to either transfer it or leave for a small fee. I am glad I negotiated it down to 9 months though, from 12.
